Inspired by the Modern Hotel in Oahu, HI., this client project in Dana Point, CA will always be a favorite of mine. A complete renovation of a 1970’s track home located just above Pacific Coast Highway in Southern California. What started as a small re-model, ended as a complete transformation of boutique hotel inspired space that will have you wondering where room service is! Monochromatic textures with pops of color play together to bring tranquility to the space while also allowing the personal touches; architectural details and family art items to seamlessly blend into the environment. Indoor meets outdoor on most days when the ocean breeze perfectly drifts into the open concept living space. My favorite ‘hotelement’ was most definitely the custom barn door still in it’s natural tree shape held together by vertical steel beams—and suspended above the kitchen when it’s not hiding the master bedroom. It’s happy hour, can we order up a chardonnay please?
